Annie Leibovitz: Portraiture and Advertising

07:20

The first photographic application I have decided to explore is portraiture. Portrait photography is a good example of artistic representation as it is used to convey expression, personality and mood within a person or group of people. The key focus to portraiture is typically the person's face, although the full body and the background or context may be included.

She's worked with brands such as Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair; and is most recognized for her intimate work with celebrities. My most favourite piece of her work is the long-time series of Disney themed celebrity portraits. She was approached by The Walt Disney Company with the idea to create a series to promote their "Year of a Million Dreams" promotion. Although this promotion is long over (it finished in 2008), Leibovitz continues to create these enchanting and powerful portraits.
